iNeed

When the iPhone was first about to be released there were millions of Americans waiting for this “machine”.  It has certainly lived up to the hype.  The newest application on the iPhone makes this so-called cell phone a must have, especially around the holiday season.  The gift of an iPhone can bring a tear to a mans eye.

Apple recently released the newest application for the iPhone, NMoble and Trapster.  They are “two mobile applications that provide up-to-date, detailed maps of speed-enforcement zones with live police traps, speed cameras or red-light cameras. After launching, each application pulls up a map pinpointing the locations of speed traps within driving distance. An audio alert will sound as vehicles approach an area tagged as harboring a speed trap.”

Both applications allow users to report what they see on the road. They can report camera-rigged stop and areas with multiple police officers patrolling.  What makes the iPhone so special is that this all can be done from the phone itself.  Then when using the phones GPS, it application warns the user that a speed trap location is approaching.

The iPhone is really paving the path of for the future of all technology.  There applications are free to download and are endless.  They have pointless applications such as iBeer an application that “an application that makes use of the smartphone’s accelerometer and sensors to simulate a frothy pint of ale” and applications such as Pocket First Aid and CPR Guide,”which offers tutorials for treating conditions from snake bites to hypothermia, are both hovering among the ten most popular paid applications.”

So if you’re stuck not knowing what to spend on your loved one, get them what no one can turn down.  Something that will have them saying “I need that phone!”

Mr. President

When you are recognized as the “most famous Chicagoan”, over Michael Jordan and Oprah Winfrey — I think you’re one pretty popular guy.

After Senator Barack Obama was elected Tuesday night on November 4th, people all over the United States have been Barack crazy.  So crazy that the Illinois Bureau of Tourism plans to launch a three-day getaway promotion featuring Barack Obama sites.

The November 7 article features President Obama boosting not only our economy but also tourism.  This is what Barack Obama is going to do for the American public.  George Bush has been rediucled for so long now, American’s forgot what it was like to actually be in favor of the President.

From information on restaurants, stores, and other places Obama has been too, the website “Presidential Chicago” even gives some information on U.S. Cellular Field, the home to the Chicago White Sox.  President Obama is easily a different type of man compared to George Bush.  Not only only on his political views but with his entertainment views also.

Welcome Mr. President.

Multimedia Presentations

Washington Post is known for their excellence in multimedia gallerys.  This gallery doesn’t fall short.  After the Redskins failed to defeat the lowely Rams last Sunday they had another home game against the Cleveland Browns.  The Browns comming off their best win of the season struggled on offense until the last possession but coming up three points short to the 5-2 Washington Redskins.

Since coming into the league in 1998 as an expansion team the Tampa Bay Rays haven’t even been close to winning season.  In fact they had more 100 loss seasons(3) than 70 win seasons(1).  The Rays have never even though about making the playoffs with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox above them each spending over 150 million on their payroles.  On Sunday night they went from being the laughing stock of baseball to the American League Champions — The Tampa Bay Rays.

The Dallas Cowboys are the most talked about team in the NFL.  I cannot stand it.  That’s why wether you are a fan of a team in the NFC East, especially the Redskins(like me) or just a fan of football, odds are — you hate the Dallas Cowboys.  That’s why with the Cowboys busting apart at the seems, getting blown out by the St. Louis Rams, in third place in the NFC East, and Tony Romo hurt, this is one of the best slideshows I have ever seen.

No Respect

The NFC East is regarded by many “experts” as the clear cut best division in football.  Although those “experts” are right, they were wrong about the Redskins this Sunday.  I would pay someone to find an “expert” that picked the Redskins would defeat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Even after the Redskins defeated the Cowboys, all of the news is how the Cowboys didn’t run the ball enough and how Terrell Owens is running his mouth — again.  The only places I could find any positive news about the Redskins actually doing anything good was at Redskins.com and WashingtonPost.com

The first article I found that wasn’t on what some would say a “biast” news source, was NFL.com.  The article by Steve Wyche finally gave the Redskins some credit.  Finally! Now, don’t get me wrong, I am a diehard Redskins fan, but this has gone too far.  The love affair the major networks have with Tony Romo and the Cowboys, Donovan McNabb and the Eagles, and now Eli Manning and the Giants is unbelievable.

We’ll forget that the Redskins are now 3-1, we’ll forget that now the Redskins beat the “best team in the league” on Sunday in Dallas, we’ll forget that Jason Campbell compared to the other godly quarterbacks has a better: completion precentage, quarterback rating, and zero interceptions.

Finally Wyche, is writing my words for me in his article.  Finally Campbell starts to get some recognition, along with his teammates.  Finally someone is saying that the NFC East isn’t just a three team race.  “It’s all about Campbell because after playing poorly and drawing criticism from first-year coach Jim Zorn in a season-opening loss to Eli Manning and the New York Giants, Campbell arguably has been the most efficient and effective quarterback in the NFL.”

“Now may come the hard part. Campbell might not be viewed as a project anymore. The Redskins won’t be looked at as the fourth team in the NFC East. Focus and concentration will now be tested.”  Considering after next weeks game at Philadelphia the Redskins play the Rams (0-4) and Browns (1-3) both at home then travel to play Detroit (0-3).  This team has a realistic shot to get at 6-2.

Flourburglar

September 22, 2008 by jtata

I thought I would never hear anything like this — but then again I shouldn’t have been suprised.  Two men were arrested Thursday morning who “face felony grand larceny charges in connection with the alleged theft of nearly $2,000 worth of baking flour from Horizon Milling at the Port of Albany.”  Franklin Johnson and David Barna are the two suspects.  I cannot believe this, what have people really come to.  The best part is that the company believes there is up to “tens of thousands of dollars” of stolen flour.  Yes — I said flour.

I understand this is a serious matter of grand larceny but seriously who steals flour and Detective James Miller said that “they may have been reselling it.”  That’s great, I can picture two 40 year old men selling flour on the street corner.  I didn’t know there was such a high demand for… flour.  Do people get high on flour?  Unless I’m missing the whole point of this article?  Is ‘flour’ a code word for some type of drug?

The article then goes on to tell us about the editor of the trade magazine Milling & Baking news, Josh Sosland, tells us the prices of flour.  I know this is a serious article but they really are assuming that these two guys were re-selling the flour.  I cannot believe what people will do to make some money.

Afghanistan Bombings

September 15, 2008 by jtata

On Sunday an Afghanistan suicide bomber “rammed” into a United Nations convoy killing three people.  It seems that the problems in foreign countries will never end.  Not to say that we the United States don’t have our own ridiculous problems, but it seems that problems such as in Afghanistan are more drastic.

“This attack was on innocent civilians working only for the people of Afghanistan, and is beyond comprehension,” the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan said in a statement.  There was also another separate bombing that killed six innocent children and wounded a total of 12.  The article later states on how many deaths have occurred in Afghanistan in 2008 due to violence. The amount of deaths?  3,000.  The highest total since 2001 and it’s still September.

Although this may have nothing to do with the war that our troops are currently dealing with, it goes to show you that some people out their have no mercy.  This ultimately is the problem with most of these foreign countries that the U.S. invades, they believe that killing is the morally correct thing to do and that is scary.

Even at the end of the article there is mention of the amount of British troops that have died in Afghanistan since the U.S. invaded.  120.  120 more than there should have been I believe.

Entertainment?

September 2, 2008 by jtata

This being my first ever blog I wanted to make sure it was good and well thought out.  The topic was going to be entertainment, and what a better way to find out about entertainment would be to search at TMZ.com.

Man was I wrong.  If people really find looking at Britney Spears stumbling into her car “entertaining” then there is something severely wrong.  Or of course the other popular star for some reason, Paris Hilton, nothing entertaining for me at TMZ.

So now my search brought me to Yahoo!, I knew that they must have an entertainment section as being one of the most popular search engines on the Web.  Yahoo! was more professional and less celebrity gossip than TMZ(Thank God!), it had a lot of show listings and a ton of advertisements.  Just when I started to enjoy this section of Yahoo! I notice something at the top right hand part of the page.  “Celebrity News by OMG!”  So for the enjoyment of the readers I decided to click on this link and found a whole page of who’s pregnant, who had sex with who, and who has been arrested.

I continued to do this at about every entertainment website I knew of and they all had celebrity news as their main attraction.  I don’t understand how this could be a form of “entertainment” to anyone.

For me entertainment should be what kind of television is on tonight, what movies are coming out, any bands coming to the local area, what sporting event is on, things that can entertain.  Seeing a celebrity at their worst on-line or on TV is hardly “entertainment” to me.
